Built in 1898, the Black Lion is a beautifully preserved, Grade II-listed period pub hotel in Northwest London, boasting striking heritage details. Commfloor worked with the designer to find a unique carpet that enhanced the hotel’s charm, improved acoustics and comfort, while respecting the building’s historic character.
As the designer explains:
“We chose Earth as we required a carpet that met the demands of busy footfall in the common areas.
Earth’s pattern provided an organic structure that harmonised with the Zoffany Richmond Park wallpaper and echoed the forms of the marbled Sakura ceramic wall lights from Mullan Lighting. The combination of these quirky elements complemented each other beautifully and pulled our design together nicely.”
Carpet Features:
~ Sustainable composition: Manufactured from 100% recycled Econyl®, a carpet yarn produced by transforming recovered waste polymers into premium regenerated fibres. Backed with 100% Ecofuse® to ensure zero VOC emissions.
~ High durability: Solution-dyed Econyl yarn, engineered to perform in busy hospitality settings without compromising aesthetics.
~ Acoustics & underfoot comfort: Wall-to-wall broadloom carpet allows for a double-stick installation method, where the carpet is adhered to underlay, ensuring sound absorption and comfort underfoot.
~ Seamless installation: Broadloom ensures a smooth, continuous finish, ideal for hospitality environments.
Results:
Earth carpet’s organic pattern flows seamlessly through the pub, echoing forms in the botanical wallpaper and marbled lighting. Its earthy tones harmonise with the painted woodwork and heritage details, creating a warm, cohesive atmosphere that feels refined and inviting while perfectly complementing the character of the Grade II listed building.
